Jenny's Story
Jenny was originally born in China and moved to South Africa in 1999 to further her career as an IT professional. In 2008 she contemplated making the move to Australia and whilst searching for IT jobs online she came across Dialog and the opportunity they had for visa sponsorship. After the application process, Jenny was hired at Dialog as an IT consultant.
Jenny was very impressed at the speed of the whole process and the commitment and professionalism that Dialog expressed when dealing with the application process, “People at Dialog take responsibility for their actions and conduct themselves in a very professional manner. I was very impressed with the speed in which they replied to emails sent. After sending an email with a question I always knew I would receive a reply within 24 hours.” She said.
After successfully completing the application process and moving to Australia Jenny started on the journey to get accustomed to the Australian way of life.
One of the great characteristics Jenny noticed about the Australian people was the keen interest they have in living a healthy lifestyle, “You always see people jogging, riding bicycles in the street and exercising in the parks even late at night!” she explained.
Concerned about the growing political and social dangers of her current location Jenny revealed, “Australia is a very safe place. The people are very friendly and quite active at night time. It’s fine for you to work late and walk home using the trains and buses without any fear of danger.”
Another large difference Jenny has noticed is the healthiness and variety of foods that supermarkets and smaller grocery stores offer mentioning how the diverse culture of Australia meant that many different cuisines from around the world were readily available.
“Here in Australia you can get many of the same foods in your local supermarkets that are available in China and South Africa although here I’ve noticed that there is an emphasis on healthy fruits and vegetables. One of the things that intrigues me most is how Australian’s have take away sushi shops and often eat sushi as a cheap and quick lunch during work.”
Jenny was very happy with the standard of available public transport.
“Public transport is very good here and they have a very efficient and interconnected system of trains, buses and water ferries.”
“Also, having the ferries (City Cats) on the water gives you another option when making your way around the city. Another great thing is the easy to use ticket system for Brisbane’s public transport. You can purchase a “Go Card” which is a digital card that lets you swipe on and off for each leg of your journey and only charges you the price of one ticket.”
When asked about the Australian people, “People are very friendly, when you go shopping in places such as Myer and you are just looking around, the shop assistants will come over to you and very politely ask you how you are going and if you need help with anything. They have a great deal of job satisfaction and make you feel very warm and invited”
“Australian clients are quite easy to work with. The important thing is to remain professional”
