Simerjit's Story
Simerjit is an IT professional currently working for Dialog who came to Australia from his home of Kuwait in 2004. He came over alone, away from his friends and family to start a new life and to study for his Bachelor of Information Technology.
Simerjit found relocating to a culturally dissimilar country quite daunting, “It was hard settling into a new country with new people without the support of my family and friends. I originally found Australia’s culture to be a very different lifestyle to what I grew up with but the people were very friendly which made settling into an unfamiliar place easier”.
After successfully completing his Bachelor of Information Technology, Simerjit then set out on the arduous process of obtaining employment relevant to his studies. One of the greatest obstacles he needed to overcome was the process of obtaining a working visa. Simerjit came to Dialog after he was initially unsuccessful in applying for a Skilled Migration visa which at the time required more work experience than he currently had. Recognising his skills and determination, Dialog was able to hire him through its 457 business visa sponsorship programme. Through Dialog, Simerjit was able to gain both a full time career and his visa.
At Dialog Simerjit has gained valuable professional and personal experience through software development. Simerjit has expressed, “Joining the team at Dialog has opened up so many doors for me, exposing me to all kinds of different organisations. Working here in so many different scenarios has really encouraged me to learn and develop new skills.”
Simerjit’s attitude and professionalism have helped him maintain a healthy relationship with many of his clients. He enjoys the lifestyle Australia has offered him.
In his own words, “The best thing about Australia is that you can enjoy both the quiet and city lifestyle, something we didn’t have back home. Australia is really a great place to work and live a safe and healthy life. Living here has opened my eyes to the way so many different cultures can happily coexist and taught me about the diversity of different lifestyles.”
